Uptime and status pages

51 services

This category groups four kinds of monitoring: HTTP and port checks that hit your site from outside, heartbeat monitors that alert when a scheduled job stops pinging, certificate expiry checks, and hosted status pages. Some tools do all of these, such as Better Stack and drumbeats.io; others do one job well, like Healthchecks.io for cron jobs or Instatus for status pages.

The two numbers to compare are the monitor count and the check interval. UptimeRobot allows 50 monitors at a 5 minute interval for personal use, downtimemonkey.com 60 monitors at 5 minutes, Better Stack 10 monitors at 3 minutes, and drumbeats.io 50 monitors at 1 minute. With a 5 minute interval an outage can go unnoticed for several minutes, which is fine for side projects and less so for paid products.

For scheduled jobs, Healthchecks.io gives 20 checks, Cronitor 5 monitors and Dead Man's Snitch one. Browser checks cost more to run, so Checkly separates 10,000 API check runs from 1,500 browser check runs. To watch the providers you depend on rather than your own site, StatusGator and incidenthub.cloud collect third-party status pages into one feed.
