Maps and geodata

21 services

Mapping services split into map display (tiles, styles and SDKs) and lookups (geocoding, reverse geocoding, routing and IP location). Mapbox, MapTiler and Stadia Maps focus on rendering maps; geocod.io, OpenCage and LocationIQ turn addresses into coordinates and back; GraphHopper adds routing and distance matrices. Many are built on OpenStreetMap data, and Nominatim is the geocoder of the OpenStreetMap project itself.

Quotas are daily or monthly request counts, and the unit differs between map views, transactions and geocodes. OpenCage and geocod.io each allow 2,500 queries a day, Geoapify 3,000 requests a day, LocationIQ 5,000 a day, and HERE 250,000 transactions a month. Stadia Maps counts 2,500 map views a day, and LatLng splits its quota into 3,000 geocodes and 300 reverse geocodes a day.

Check the terms as well as the numbers. Stadia Maps and positionstack limit their plans to personal use, and public OpenStreetMap services like Nominatim expect light usage and visible attribution. Some providers also restrict storing geocoding results, which matters if you plan to cache coordinates in your own database.
