IDEs and code editors

30 services

Desktop editors are the easy part: Visual Studio Code, VSCodium, Android Studio, Apache Netbeans and Code::Blocks cost nothing for any use. A few carry license terms worth reading. Visual Studio Community is free for individuals, open-source work, education and small teams, but larger organizations need a paid edition. Sublime Text can be evaluated without a license but expects one for continued use, and BBEdit falls back to a free mode that keeps its core editing features.

Browser IDEs and playgrounds trade setup for limits on running time and resources. Paiza gives one server with 2 vCPU and 2 GB of memory for 4 hours a day. JDoodle runs 60+ languages in the browser and allows 200 API credits a day for remote execution. OneCompiler and OnlineGDB cover 70+ and 40+ languages, and LiveCodes runs 90+ languages and frameworks entirely in the browser without signup. Replit and StackBlitz host full projects, and CoCalc bundles Jupyter, LaTeX and SageMath in one workspace.
